Recycling Experience Trip in Wet Market

Background

In Hong Kong, the food-wasting situation is very serious. Food leftovers are thrown away because of their bad outlooks (inferior appearance). On the other hand, many families are under pressure due to “lack of food” problem. In view of this, CENTRE is committed to food recycling services, by collecting leftovers and distributing them to needy people and families in the district. By this way it helps to improve the mismatch of resources and raises participants’ awareness of environmental protection and poverty issues by community and public education.

Objectives

The problem of poverty is a complicated one. In order to understand the situation of grassroots groups thoroughly, the participants’ experience of poverty in actual daily life is more important than just paying attention to the news about it.

Through the experience on food recycling, the participants will observe the living conditions of the grassroots and understand their pressure face to face. This will enhance the public awareness and responses to poverty issues.
